VERSE 1
The 12th of August, Year 2000,
The Kursk sank in the Barents sea.
Two explosions ripped through it
Filling the ocean with debris.

It measured one hundred fifty meters
From nose to tail.
No yellow submarine but a ship of war,
Yet still so very frail.

At the bottom it came to rest
In depths dark as distant space.
On that cold and rocky ocean bed
They found their final resting place.

Nothing lives down there,
Nothing crawls or creeps,
In the freezing Arctic waters
Fifty fathoms deep.

CHORUS
No one heard their calls for help,
No one heard them as they drowned,
No one heard their desperate cries,
No one heard a sound.

Now in silent icy waters,
Side by side they sleep,
Locked inside their submarine
Fifty fathoms deep.

VERSE 2
A young lieutenant left a note
That twenty-three survived the dive.
They made their way to the back of the sub
Where they waited for help to arrive.

How many days did they huddle there
Waiting at the bottom of the sea,
While their air was running out
And they were screaming to get free?

The rescue ships were tossed about
By thirteen-foot high waves.
But fifty fathoms down below
They were already in their grave.

While the politicians squabbled
Over who could help and how,
Wives and mothers shed their tears,
But no one could help those sailors now.

CHORUS
No one heard their calls for help,
No one heard them as they drowned,
No one heard their desperate cries,
No one heard a sound.

Now in silent icy waters,
Side by side they sleep,
Locked inside their submarine
Fifty fathoms deep.

INTERLUDE
They gave them medals for their courage
And called them heroes for their sacrifice.
But what good are decorations on the mantle
When they had to pay such a price?

CHORUS
No one heard their calls for help,
No one heard them as they drowned,
No one heard their desperate cries,
No one heard a sound.

Now in silent icy waters,
Side by side they sleep,
Locked inside their submarine
Fifty fathoms deep.
